Huw Bates
Huw has lived in Aberystwyth since he was a few months old and was educated at Plascrug Primary School and subsequently Penglais Comprehensive School, where he became Head Boy in his final year. He then attended Swansea University, where he gained an LLB in Law and a Masters Degree in Criminology. After 12 months as a paralegal with Morris & Bates, Huw went on to complete his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester. He then returned to Morris & Bates in 2004 to complete his training contract, and qualified as a solicitor in the summer of 2005.
Huw mainly deals mainly with commercial landlord and tenant matters, having specialised in this field for many years, but currently occupies a role as a part-time consultant solicitor at the firm given he is also the co-editor and founder of the Aberystwyth EGO Magazine. He is also the managing director and co-founder of HAKA Entertainment, an events management company/entertainment agency based in Aberystwyth, as well as being a qualified independent wedding and funeral celebrant.
Huw is a keen traveller, having spent a total of 18 months travelling in Australia, Canada and New Zealand, including several months' work as a paralegal for Clayton Utz, a large corporate law firm in Sydney, Australia. He is also heavily involved with Bow Street Football club, having first played for them over thirty years ago and with over a decade of managing the club’s two sides under his belt!
Huw lives in Bow street with his wife, Nia, and two children, Seren and Charlie.
